Being passive is how fights never end. If you have two very passive players explain how the fight is going to progress? Backing up is one thing, but completely being passive is why people hate playing this game at times. I'm not saying be overaggressive, but you need to be aggressive at least 50% of the time.
I just play passive and aggressive
Because there are no rules that’s just psychological manipulation to get people to do what you want them to do
And that depends on the battleground or duel games
Keeping your cool during fights is one of the most important tips in TSB. Being toxic and flaming chat is not going to make you improve.
I hope people are seeing this comment

this is a great video but just to add onto it for anyone who sees this, the biggest tip i always give to new players is something very well known in fighting games that i never see talked about in tsb but i believe it still applies, called the "neutral" triangle.

basically "neutral" is the small spots inbetween m1 warfare and comboing, which in my opinion is THE most important part of the fight. you "win" neutral by landing an m1 before your opponent, where you are then in "advantage", since you have more options, and your opponent is in "disadvantage" with them having less options. absolutely EVERYTHING in the game comes secondary to this, you could have the most optimal combo for the most damage and know every single tech in the game for your character and it simply will not matter if you cant land that first m1 before your opponent does.

think of the neutral state as a game of rock paper scissors, hence the "neutral triangle". there are 3 main options here, each one countering another (like rock paper scissors) unreactable moves, passive play, and punishing recovery frames. (if anyone doesnt know, "recovery frames" are the brief period after you use a move where you're stuck and cant do anything, and your opponent is free to hit you if they're fast enough)

lets say i do a fast sidedash into flowing water faster than they can react, thats throwing out an unreactable move. my opponent adapts to this, and starts to throw out dashes and moves pre-emptively to catch me (lots of players call this spamming, this is just untrue, its a very valid reaction to someone throwing out unreactable moves. it becomes spamming when thats ALL you're doing.) lets say i then adapt to this, and wait for him to toss out a move and react to punish him in his recovery frames. he can then adapt to this, and start throwing out unreactable moves himself that i cant punish, bringing it full circle. (or full triangle)

if you are starting out, try to constantly keep this in mind during your fights. your opponent is spamming scatter and flash strike? block, wait for them to waste it, and then punish it. your opponent is holding block, trying to punish all of your moves? get a quick sidedash behind them into pretty much any move, and its extremely hard to react to.

it IS difficult to think about this all the time and it will take time to get used to, im not trying to claim its easy, but eventually you start to do it while barely thinking about it. ill say it again, i fully believe that literally every single thing you can learn in this game comes secondary to learning how to just consistently land an m1.
